ETHNIC CLEANSING IN KOSOVA Ethnic cleaning is the same as the ethnic extermination of the Holocaust. The two are related both by being vicius, and a premeditated, systematic operation fueld by religious and ethnic hatred. What happened in Kosova is tragic from all points of view. Six million Jews perished at the hands of the Nazis, and Serbian authorities removed to the camps one millionan three hundred Albanians in only three weeks.
In an extremist ethnic religious fever based an imaginary basis, the Serbian authority committed some of the worst massacres agains humanity if it was not the worst of all. Parallels between the Nazi Holocaust and the current ethnic cleansing in Kosova is a direct connection. It occurs when human beings lose their capacity to live together and despite their differences.
In the closing days of the 20-th century when the world is looking for a new millenium, Europe is once again haunted by the phantom of the Holocaust. But this time it is termed as etnic cleansing.
The term "etnic cleansing" generally entails the systematic and forced removal of members of an ethnic group from their communities to change the ethnic composition of a region. I am a contemporary example of a person who survived all the tortures and massacres in KOsova. I will use some information in all aspects of Serbian efforts to ethniclly cleanse Kosova, reports of human rights and humanitrian law violation.
The regime of Slobodan Milosevic is conducting a campaign of forced migration on a scale not seen in europe since World War II. More than 90% of all Albanians have been expelled from their homes in KOsova. In contrast to the fall of 1998,attacs on civilians by Serb security forces generally occured in small village. In the spring of 1999, Yugoslav Army and special police units have joined with recently armed serbian civilians to expel their neighbers from almost all towns and villages in Kosova. Refering to international humanitarian organizations, an estimeted 600,000 internally displaced are strugling to survive in Kosva. Approximatly 700,000 Kosovars have taken refugee in Albania,Bosnia,Macedonia, And Republik of MOnte Negro,since hostilities commenced in March 1998. Over three-forths of these people have arrived since late March 1999. Someresidential areas have been at least partially burned since March 1999, including 300 villages that have been burned since Aprill 4, 1999.(the dates I am giving are referrring Aprill 13,1999, when I left my home).
Houses,apartments,mosques,churches,schools, and medicalfacilities have also been targeted and destroyed. Many settlements have been totally destroyed in an attempt to ensure that the Albanian residents do not return. Holocaust comes from Greek, originally meant a sacrifice totally burned by fire, so that happened in Kosova too.
During World War II, 1.5 million Polosh Jews were killed, 1.8 million Jews from Russia were deprted in Nazi camps and 2.7 million from other countries have been tacked in camps all over the Europe. When Germany was close to losing the war, they began to move their prisoneers out of camps and took them to be used as slave laborersin camps inside Germany. Prisoners were forced to march long distances in bitter copd, with little or no food, water, or rest.
I have consistent argument that serbian forces are separating millitary-aged men from their famelies in a systematic pattern. At this time of writing, Novomber 8, 1999, the total number of missing men and their fate is unknown.
Ethnic Albanian women are reprtly being raped in increasing number. Systematic and orginazed mass rapes have beenm madein city of Gjakova and Peja.I belive that many crimes of gender violence have not been reported due to the coltural stigma attached to these offenses in Kosovar society. Jews women and Albanians in Kosova have also factors that connet them, as for instance: more than one million women were murdered while pregnant, hplding little hands of children or carrying infants in their arms on the way to be gassed, When 20% of them were raped before.After more than 50 years an increasing number of female survivors of the Holocaust are a banding the shield of silance.
Serb authorities have looted and destroyed dozens of medical facilities, murdered Kosovar Albanian physicians, expelled ethnic Albanian patients and care providers from hospitals, and have used large numbers of health facilities as protective cover for military activities.
The Serb authorities have confiscated passaports and other idebtity papers, systematicly destroyed voter registers and other aspects of Kosovo`s civil registry, and removed license plates from departing vehicles as part of a policy to prevent returns to Kosova.
This info is part of the biggest pain of Albanian people all over the World. The intetn is to be learning oppurtunity for the Europian Union and USA once for all to encourage others to make their own contributions to get the facts out, and ultimatly, hold the perpretators of these crimes accountable. On the other hand, the facts I have represented are the best manifestation of the ethnic cleansing. Also one of objectives is to keep the images of holocaust clearly and painfully attached in evryone`s mind so as not to forget the events of such an inhumane period.
